is a series of poems about Kim’s experiences at an annual yoga retreat held by her yoga teacher Katarina Kaeser in Beaverton, Ontario. The poems are accompanied by watercolor paintings based on sketches Kim made during Iris Haussler’s “Journal Sketching” class at the Toronto School of Art.
“When first I take my pain to yoga
it sits between me
and the other yogis
like the damp black lab that barked at us
as we walked in the rain
at the retreat center
the sound of its voice so familiar
I never noticed it
until
after thirty years
life finally quieted down
around me
and I could listen.”
