We are saddened by the passing of our friend and fellow editor, Ruth Phaneuf Parker. Ruth was a founding member of Red Claw Press. She was always up for good meals, good laughs and the hard work of putting the book together. We will miss her playful, inquisitive and generous spirit.

.
Anyone who ever worked with Ruth Parker, on any project, knew how she always threw herself into anything she turned her hand to. And what capable hands they were—from her considerable skills in the culinary arts, to the planning of a simple event, like a meeting, or a very complicated one like a book launch.

.

She made everything she touched memorable, she made each seem easy. And so it was with Red Claw Press, at which Ruth so mightily held up her corner of the sky, with enviable grace, style and elegance.

.

Working with Ruth was always a treat because she embraced new experiences and gave her energy and time with such generosity. She knew how to make hard tasks fun—I can hear her wicked laugh as we worked our way through endless book submissions. And she could say just the right thing about a submission that would make us want to give it another look. It was probably the teacher in her that needed to give each entry the benefit of the doubt.

.

Lobster Hugs, Ruth—we’re really missing you!

Seek It: Writers and Artists Do Sleep is a collection of poems, stories, essays and artwork inspired by our conflicted relationship with sleep and the night. In the pages of Seek It, lovers find pleasure and pain, insomnia leads its many sufferers to get creative, exhausted new parents struggle through their days, a rural anaesthetist confesses his near misses, the dead make their presence felt, and a man who works the graveyard shift in a convenience store has a particularly tough night.
